Internet Explorer Security Pop-up??

I'm having a problem with a Internet Explorer Security Pop-Up which keeps appearing constantly on my screen whenever I have any webpage open or am even trying to open a page.

The pop-up states...

A website wants to open web content using this program on your computer.

And the program it states is : Adobe Flash Player

But this opens no matter what page I am opening and is constantly popping up - even after I check the box that states:

Do not show me the warning for this program again.

Does anyone know why this is happening and most importantly, how to make it stop?

Thanks

Adobe is a true PITA.

Yep.

Not much that you can do about it but load the Adobe cr@p and let it play.

Way too many websites now use extensive Adobe cr@p anyway so it will 'enhance' your internet experience if you have the latest and greatest.

EDIT: You need to go to Adobe website and let them install it.

Problems with security with windows vista?

I tried to make another account, after I made it I could not find that account anywhere on my computer. Now, when I try to run programs, and anything with a Windows Shield icon beside the name, it asks me for the password for that account that I made, I type in the password I set for that account, and it says unknown user account or bad password.

Now, I can't install things or run most of my programs...

How can I fix this? i need to delete that account because it has taken over my security. i would be very thankful to anyone that can tell me how to delete it without going through the password. thank you.

another flaw in Vista, first report it to Microsoft as it may require a fix. You wouldn't have these problems on XP, they would all be rectified by now, While your waiting for SP1 to come out grin and bear it, and try a recovery disc?

Which is better AVG Internet Security or McAfee?

My renewal for McAfee Security Center is almost up.

I have a free Advanced Windows Care 2 which I really like.

Which would you suggest getting? AVG Internet Security or just renew the McAfee.

Don't even mention Norton. I hate it. It slows my computer down!!

ESET Nod32. You'll be surprised at how much McAfee has been slowing you down. I think it's still on sale at NewEgg... $20.

Which is better AVG Internet Security or McAfee?malware

AVG is easy to use, but very weak at removing tough trojans/virus.

Windows Care is like a chocolate teapot.

I would advice looking at Kaspersky Internet Security.
I say McAfee. It is the best one that I had, and I used a lot.
McAfee
Hi, AVG come's free but Mc AFee you have to pay for every year, but you do get upgrades. but my personal choice is I use the anti-spy, popup stopper etc that was supplied with my router connection plus windows firewall, but foi extra protection there are free personal firewalls you can get off the internet like AVG free addition.

Hope this has helped

Computer hacking?

I have a paronoid salesman in Chicago with a brand new Dell laptop - with wireless %26 bluetooth - he insists that despite a WPA and security software that as soon as he turned on his NEW laptop he was INSTANTLY hacked...how likely does anyone think this this is? In addtion, Geek Squad has sold him $600 worth of software and told him that he needs a hard switch to turn off the ports on his computer. (he has already disabled everything on his own) I think he is just a paranoid, but I am looking for a true computer wiz to tell me what they think!

unless someone knew his ip address or backdoored him or started seeing weird popups on his screen randomly, I would say paranoid...

unless you take a look at it yourself....

WPA2 is the latest and greatest and it is free. Give him this link and tell him to save his money
Some experts agree now that wpa takes less time to crack than traditional wep - however this SOLELY depends the cryptographic strength of the wireless network (aka pass phrase.)

If he is medium paranoid, I suggest he use the maximum number of characters available for the WPA2 Enterprise AES+tkip key, using non-standard characters, and change the key every 3 days.

Computer Problems help :[?

My other computer is windows XP and well this box keeps popping up saying:

Windows Internet Explorer

One or more activeX controls could not be dispayed because either:

1)Your current security prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or

2)You have blocked a publisher of one of the controls.

As a result, the page may not display correctly.

--------------------------

It's pretty annoying too because we never use Internet Explorer much. and when I close this box, This Norton Antivirus thing pops up then it dissapears. I dont have a chance to read it since its messed up.

Also my mom was using the computer earlier and something popped up and she said she was busy doing something so she didn't read the message or anything and she clicked "ok" but we think she might have accidently blocked Firefox... I even tried going to my firewall and yeah i tried unblocking but it didn't work and this dial up connection box comes up and we don't use dial up too.

What do I do? :[

Bypass Lightspeed Security?

My school uses Lightspeed has their Security Network (which is known to be the best there is).

(I go to a very small school [60 students])

Of course, all the usuals are blocked (MySpace, Facebook, forums, etc.)

Now, usually you can get around this using various proxies (they block them quickly so there's a new proxy going around almost every day).

My question is, is there a way to change the Network settings so I can avoid the securty all together (proxies sometimes don't allow you to access certain things)? I don't have the computer administrater password.

However, I do have my own personal lap top I bring in on a regular basis.

I've been looking at the Network connection lately, looking for a way to get through the securty, but in vein. Is there a way I can change the Network Settings on my laptop without doing anything that will effect it's performance at home?

Does anyone know anything about Lightspeed they can tell me that may assist me?

You need to use a "proxy server". Try the following:

* Open your browser and go to http://sabc4.com

* In the rectangular field on the page, type in the address you want to go to (like facebook.com

* Click "Begin Browsing"

It will be a little slow, but you should be able to access any site that way.

Computer goes into power save mode during XP install?

I'm adding a new hard drive to an older Dell Dimension 4600. During XP install the computer goes into power save mode at the same exact point each time. The other components of the CPU are original from the factory. The original hard drive crapped out which is why a new one is going in.

First i thought it was the video card but then why would the whole computer go into power save mode and why would it happen at the same exact point of installation. It occurs right before the user info/security key is to be added. It says there is 34 minutes left of installation and thats when it shuts down each and every time.

Dell goes to very minimum with power supplies you need to make sure you have a sufficient power supply or you could burn up your MB, IF its 2005-2001 i believe Dell had its own PS form factors so you cannot use just any power supply or you will burn something out.

Everytime I open a web page on Internet Explorer I get a message pop up from the bottom of the page that says: 'To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options.'

Can anyone advise me on how to remove it so it doesn't constantly pop up whenever I open a page? I'm not downloading anything but the page itself. I merely want to view the page properly.

To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content?internet security

This security update for IE was included in SP2. I believe it's possible to disable, though I haven't tried.

In IE, go to Tools %26gt; Internet Options %26gt; Advanced tab. Check 'Allow active content to run in files on my computer'. Restart IE.

*RESPONSE TO ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Fiddling with the settings may not have anything to do with it. As I said, this is a security update that was implemented with SP2. If you have recently ran Windows Update, or have Automatic Updates schedules, then this would be what has changed it. Following the instructions I provided above SHOULD help fix the issue.

AVG Internet Security Problem?

I have installed AVG internet security which seems to be working fine the only problem I am having is now it will not let me receive any e-mails. I am using outlook express and it will try to connect and then time out.

If I turn off the e-mail scanner some times this will solve the problem other time i have to close AVG altogether.

Can any one help? 鈥?I鈥檓 not to good on computer so as easy instructions as possible would be much appreciated!!

Thank you.

You should make a full scan of your system using any online free scan tool as AVG could be infected or blocked on your pc. You can try the free tool www.nanoscan.com by Panda. I麓ve tried it later and it麓s really usefull.

Good luck :)

I never use Outlook Express, so I can't really help you much there. Still, try changing the settings of the email scanner of AVG, so that it will allow incoming mail.
First, try to reinstall AVG.

If that doesn't help, try other antivirus softwares such as these award-winners:

Is it okay to uninstall automatic security updates????

I went to my add-remove files this evening, and found a whole long list of security updates added by windows, and am wondering if this is what might be slowing down my computer so much. Things are being added daily, it appears and now I'm wondering if it would hurt anything if I were to uninstall some of these updates? Would it help speed up my computer??? Any advice?

Is it okay to uninstall automatic security updates????ktm

If you don't get the updates, your missing patches that could save your computer from incoming damage from outside the net. The patches will not slow your computer down.

You shouldn't uninstall your security updated, microsoft will just reinstall them again once they notice they're not on their. Your better off cleaning up your desktop put things in File folders having a full desktop will really slow down your system. Also defragment your computer, that in effect is like cleaning up and organizing your closet.. Just go into search and ask for defragment and then follow the step by step instructions it's not hard to do and will really speed up your system. Let me know how it goes for you. and don't worry about losing anything you can all go into restore pick a date and it will be just the way it was.
Yes Its Ok To Uninstall Updates.

ESET Smart Security POPUPS...help!?

my dad just installed eset smart security, and now there are more popups than before when we didnt have a popup blocker. the popups appear than eset tries to find it and slows down the computer alot.

anyone else have this probolem?

ESET Smart Security POPUPS...help!?live update

Many times a security suite like ESET Smart Security will change certain things (firewall settings, popup blocker settings, etc.) without warning a user. The developers say to themselves, "We need for this and that to be set a certain way in order for our product to work, so let's just do it and not confuse the user by telling her about it."

I went to the knowledge base but could not find anything that talked about increased number of popups.

http://www.eset.com/support/kb.php

My suggestion is to contact ESET support, explain the problem and let them tell you what needs to be done. (This could also be a compatibility issue if you're using IE7 or Vista.)

Norton Internet Security Center At Risk? Could it have a virus?

I woke up this morning and I noticed that in the taskbar the Norton Internet Security Center 2007 was flashing red. I double clicked it and it said that my subscription need renewal. I look under subscription and I have 277 days left. I hit live update to see if that would work but it said could not update subscription expired.5 minutes later I look a Norton and it says that antivirus and firewall is turned off. It wonnt let me turn it on though. The area in Norton 2007 where you can start a scan, I click it but it wont open up. Instead of being blue text its gray as if something is not registered. Now I am looking at Norton again and now it just shows that the firewall is off. So now only one thing has the big X around it. I am just wondering what could be causing this. Since I could not virus scan on Norton I downloaded AVG and I am scanning my computer to see if that helps at ll. If anyone could help me that would be great

try this command in ur command prompt:

Computer Freezing?

My lap top ( I just bought brand new in like April from Dell.) is freezing up. It has the McAfee Security Center on it and it doesn't show anything infected or quarantined (? spelling) . But, a lot of my programs will just freeze and say that "Program" has encountered a problem, windows will try to find a solution and the whole thing closes! Then when the computer restarts it says Error 0x0000008 or something like that! PLEASE, HELP if you know what could be going on! Also, my desktop computer is freezing. Not, as bad though. When I put a new ink cartridge in my printer it has a pop up that says to choose which ink cartridge you installed and if I've used it. But, it won't let me click on it that pop up freezes and so I can't install my ink cartridge- thus I can't print! And I tried to install the printer to my laptop it took FOREVER, said it installed and then when I go to use it it pops up an error message 0x00000007? Any ideas as to what any of this means? Don't be rude!

Why is the Bible banned from my computer at work?

Symantec Security will not allow many pages of the Bible on my work computer...I am trying to look up Deuteronomy 13:6-10 for a Sunday School Lesson tonight...

Why is the Bible banned from my computer at work?microsoft office

Strange that you should choose this particular passage for a sunday school lesson tonight because first of all its not Sunday and secondly this passage is one often used by nay-sayers who are anti-christian. They see this passage as showing God to be unmerciful and a hater...calling for the death of these innocent idolotars who just happen to be stupid enough to believe in false gods and stuff. The problem though and you might want to relay this to your students...what are they 2nd graders?... is that the idolotry and paganism of those days often times led to such fine behavior as sacrificing ones own children, trafficing children in slavery in exchange for sacrificial animals (swine) and trading oneself in temple prostitution as a form of worship. Yeah...it would sorta be like how a parent would feel toward a trusted person who secretly led their child into drug use or pornography or something like that...Jealous God and all that ya know? Wouldn't want someone to parish over the worshipping of a piece of stone or wood...

Deuteronomy 13:6-10

6If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

Does the Intellimouse with fingerprint scanning help internet security and hackers?

My company is going to send me a computer to use for work here at home. I am going to use wired networking for my PC now and the computer from my company. However, the IT people from my company can control their computer whenever they wan to, and it scares me to know that because that means they may be able to access our PC since they're networked. I also understand that most wired routers nowadays have firewalls in it, but I still want to be very extra careful.

I found out about the Intellimouse with fingerprint scanning and I think it's cool to know that it has to have your fingerprint to be able to login to a certain site. Can anyone share with me how this really works? Lets say I do bank transactions in our PC and I use the fingerprint scanning, will that encrypt my login information from hackers? I have tried to view Microsoft's online tour about this product, but all they explained is about convenience and not security...well, at least, that's how I understood it. :-)

Make sure you read the manual and help files to get the best out of it since it can be confusing.

Nintendo WiFi security problems with linksys?

I have a linksys broadband router which is model WRT54G ver. 6. I was able to connect to Nintendo WFC before, but I used the "secure easy setup" button to connect my other computer to it. Now when I try to use WiFi on my DS and I search for an access point it says, "The access point's security settings are not supported by the Nintendo DS." Does anyone know how I can make it work with my DS?

Nintendo WiFi security problems with linksys?virus protection

My approach would be to disable all the security protection settings in the router web interface which is normally accessed by typing http://192.168.1.1 into your brower's URL address window and logging into the router. Your WRT54G manual tells you the user and password to log in with. You can reset the password and router to it's factory default settings by simply holding the router's reset button (rear panel) in with a toothpick for 10 seconds. This will turn it's security settings off and you should be able to log into the router to see if everything's working again. You can always turn your security back on later. Beware of firewalls like Zone Alarm on your PC that can also deny network connections at times. Turn your firewall off when troubleshooting if necessary.

You have downloaded a browser hijacker. Antivirus may not clear it as it not a virus, it's sole function is to redirect you to a specific site. You should really run an adware or spyware scanner. A good one is Spybot and lavasoft (both free) - download them from here and carry out an update on both then run them, that should clear your problem.

Sounds very much like your computer is infected with the Zlob Trojan. Zlob Trojan generates 'Critical System Alert' messages and tries to force you into buying rogue antispyware products. To remove these message and the trojan that generates them, download and scan your PC with SpyNoMore, it is the most accurate program in detecting zlob infections.

http://www.spynomore.com/trojan-zlob.htm

By the way it is not free, but then again you should really question any so-called free solution. Isn't that how your computer got infected in the first place?!. The free scan will only check your system and show you the infections. If you choose to remove them, be prepared to pay.

run a ful system scan, then let norton anit virus delete it

then it will put the computer back to it,s orginal congifuration.
Run your antivirus and any spyware removal programs you have, if that doesn't get rid of it go to http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/ and follow the instructions to remove it
Excellent suggestion above, ones that I would have made myself. I would like to add that you should download Mozilla Firefox, it's much better at security...IE7 is just a catch-up copy of Mozilla.
try spybot - this works pretty good - your isp should also have some type of spyware remover

One of the first things to do when you suspect malware is DISABLE System Restore.

If enabled, this allows malware to hide in the computer and re-install itself.

So, to disable it, RIGHT-click on "My Computer." Select "Properties" then under the 'System Restore' tab, check 'Turn off system restore' IF not already checked.

The next most helpful things that would help you are to use ONLINE scanners from websites to remove any malware on your PC.

The current best online scanners I prefer are from Kaspersky antivirus and Bitdefender antivirus. Together, these 2 scanners will find ALL the bad stuff on your PC because they have the BEST detection rate.

First, use Kaspersky's. (FYI: ALL these scans require you to agree to a EULA and install an activex control which is needed to perform the scan, so agree to them all.)

*NOTE: Some scanners ONLY work with IE or may not fully remove malware

Well it really depends on the organization and the management team making these types of decisions. Some IT folks don't see the "business side" of the issue. In order to prosecute someone for hacking your network you have to first admit that your customers data may have been compromised and you have/had weaknesses in your network. Most senior management does not want that type of publicity.

Also you have to take into account the costs of "whatever resources necessary"... if they prosecute someone does the company really get any money back from the work they put into building the evidence? You could be looking at a $100,000+ bill for evidence gathering, research, consulting....

Do I agree... Depends on what senior management decides. If they tell me to do whatever necessary (within legal limits) I will do that.

Just put the kaspersky security onto my system and my daughter's can't get 'grophland

Just put the kaspersky security onto my system and my daughter's can't get 'grophland' it says "forbidden"????antivirus programs

block websites individually or run a security program where you set the 'blocks'....the 'grophland' is forbidden due to the spelling.....and therefore FORBIDDEN automatically by your computer system as it understands it to be material that deserves to be blocked.

Use the graph..set it to 'medium' ...it should work....

finally, just tell your kids not to visit the 'wrong' websites !!
just turn it off its a waste and anoyance! Plus your daughter wont look at the bad sites its the dudes that do it during there teen years. Plus she can get around these security programs with proxys which arent hard go search one now on google and instantly she can go on any site she wants unless you block every single proxy on the net!

Confused about computer memory?

ok i dont know much about computers can anyone tell me if this is ok or not? i have my new computer about 3 weeks now (windows vista). it has a 500GB HD which currently says i have 366GB out of 455GB free. when buying the computer i chose 3072MB memory. it now says i have 3069.88MB of total physical memory and my available physical memory is 1.39GB. my total Virtual memory is 8.89GB and i have 7.23GB available. my recovery drive is also 5.76GB free out of 9.99GB .... can anyone tell me is that how it should be or what? its only 3 weeks running and i just want to make sure that seems normal? in case this matters i have a good few pictures on it, itunes, mcafee security and a webcam?

Confused about computer memory?adware

Q: it has a 500GB HD which currently says i have 366GB out of 455GB free,...

A: The disk space is referring to the amount of data that you can store in it.

Q: physical memory

A: The RAM module that installed in your computer refers to the amount of data that the computer can support; you can't store your document in it.

Q: Virtual memory

A: The temporary storage which your operating system stores data in it, but you can't store your document in it.

Q: i just want to make sure that seems normal?

A: ...i have 366GB out of 455GB free... Rest assured.

Confused about computer memory?antivirus scan

yeh its normal, 500gb is never actually extactly 500gb, memory is used on other system files so yeh your are good to go! and the ram is fine tooo! everything is fine do not worry!
eat cheese it hepls my memory
Your computer is normal. Each and every HD space is slightly different from which it is written. And then the OS installed take some space.
Everything is normal, your system is just using some of the hd space and the memory. To check all you have to do is go to BIOS, Press F2 at start up and you can check to see what is listed there, if everything is normal it will list 500 gb or around there (as some is in use), and it will list all of the memory.

Norton internet security 2006 will not allow me to surf the internet?

I have a problem. I am working on a clients computer and it is unable to get on the internet. He stated that about a week ago he was able to get on the internet but now he is unable. While running Norton Internet Security 2006 the internet will not work but if i disable the application I am able to do so. I allowed iexplorer.exe full access to the internet through NIS06 but it still will not work. I also completely uninstall the program and reinstalled it and still cannot get it to work. I also did a system restore for a week back and reinstalled NIS06 and I still have the same problem. Do anybody have any ideas on how to resolve this problem thanx.

Want to watch my business from my Computer?

I have security cameras at my business. I want to watch it from my computer at home or my laptop when I travel. Any ideas on how to do it?

Thks

Want to watch my business from my Computer?anti virus protection

You will need a way to pipe the video data from your cameras to your internet connection. Most DVR systems camera system will allow you to do this.

You can also get some internet enabled web cameras that do the same job - they connect to the power and your router / internet connection and you can connect to them remotely.

You will also need a static IP for your business internet connection - or have the ability to do DNS routing so you know what URL/ IP address to connect to.

I think the easiest way would be to encorporate a DVR system. You should be able to upgrade the existing camera system you have (most likely) with one.

Be ready to spend a little bit of money :)

Want to watch my business from my Computer?antivirus

It depends on the features of the brand of security camera system you have. Some can do it, some can't.

You'll definitely need at least a broadband internet connection at the facility to stream the video.

Yep...I know how to do it. Go to http://www.stealthprotector.com/visec-su...

If you already have a security camera, hidden camera, or Nanny Cam, then all you need is the Visec from StealthProtector.com. It allows you to see your cameras images from any computer in the world OR your cell phone. It actually alerts you on your cell phone when there is any movement, and it starts recording. It is so awesome for home, house, or business surveillance. Watch your home, office, or business from any computer in the world. http://www.stealthprotector.com...

Why does my microsoft security update prompt keep coming back?

Microsoft Security Updates has reminded me that there is a new security download: .NET framework 1.1 service pack 1. I have attempted to install it several times and afterward it says that it has been successfully installed. I shut down my computer but when rebooted, the same reminder comes up for the exact same download. I tried turning off my firewall in case that was blocking installation, but it didn't seem ot make a difference. Any ideas?

I have had the same situation. I ignore it and eventually it goes away. It's not accurate because the download has actually been successfully installed. So don' worry about it.

Norton Internet Security???

I have Norton Internet Security on. So i was browsing when a pop up (ads) appeared. I felt this was wierd so i scaned my computer, but nothing (no viruses were found on Norton Virus Scan) was found. I was just wondering if Norton could locate spyware and also how safe is Norton..... viruses and spyware can be a *****.

Norton Internet Security???anti virus software

Norton is an anti-virus and you need anti-spyware in addtion to prevent pop-ups.

Your machine is infected. Pop-ups are mostly caused by adware, spyware, and other malicious and unwanted software and using pop-up blocker won't help an infected PC. No single program can detect and eradicate all spyware and I recommend using Ad-aware and Spybot (they are free). Other great free anti-spyware programs would be Super anti-spyware and AVG anti-spyware (formally Ewido).

Norton is the worst anti-virus product ever made and I would not install it on my computer if I was paid to do so. Norton is more of a virus than an anti-virus. It's a huge resource hog, notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans. The software will do more harm to your PC than good and when you try to remove it, it leaves behind over 375 traces in your registry files/folders and subsystem. It's so bad they had to create a removal tool which is still not going to fix all the problems. Your better off using one of the free anti-virus products.

It has been proven ESET NOD32 and Kaspersky are better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (see the consumersearch source for reviews of the top anti-virus products).

If you want a free anti-virus, get AVG, Avast! or AntiVir (install only 1).

Upgrade your Norton with anti spyware also, $10 I think.

i was going on a website and then a security message said that you may have a virus on your computer. do the virus scan just download it. i don't want to download any virus programs. i don't even have norton antivirus. how do i know if i have a virus and if i do, how do i remove it without any antivirus programs? i also have firewall installed.

1)Try a simple program, Spybot. Search for a download site.

2) Search for Housecall, a free online virus checker.

IGNORE THE SECURITY MESSAGE. It's a scam. Many of the security messages link to programs that once installed, are very hard to uninstall.

How do you know if you have a virus on your computer?avast

You can use free online virus scanning and cleaning, the HouseCall, at www.antivirus.com

But, I recommend you install free anti virus program, AVG, from www.grisoft.com . It's a good anti virus program from my using experience. You may need to update it as often as you can to cut short every update time.

Panda Internet Security?

I recently changed my internet security to Panda Platinum 2007 but find that I cannot connect to the internet until I disable Panda. Something seems to be blocking the internet but I don't know how to rectify this. Can anyone held please. Not very computer literate so layman's language would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Panda Internet Security?antispyware

Panda is garbage in my opinion. Rated almost at the bottom by experts in the field of antivirus.

If Panda Platinum 2007, comes with it's own firewall and you are running Windows XP Prof., then there will be a conflict with two firewall.

Go to =start=settings=control panel. Look for the XP Firewall an open and turn off the Windows XP firewall if this is the platform that you are using.

If you only have the Panda firewall, then you should get a pop-up from their firewall asking you for permission to access the internet. If you don't get the firewall pop-up get rid of this junk and download an excellent state of the art free version. (I use this myself in one pc).

http://www.avast.com This is an excellent state of the art free antivirus sytem that updates daily, sometimes twice per day an is free for home use. Their corporate is the same software, they just charge corporate. You will have to fill out a short form and give them your email so they can send you a registration key for the free home version that is good for one year. After the one year is up, all you do is renew the free key. Scans all 175,000 object in my system and will also scan hidden files, compressed files.

Simple solution...

Step 1) Go to your router setup and activate the DMZ host option...

Point it to the machine on the network that will host the game...

Step 2) Either turn off your firewall while hosting a game, (don't forget to turn it back on when done!) OR open the port(s) in the firewall that the game uses (Halo uses ports 2302 and 2303 by default)

DONE!

Clean disk security?

Does it actually work? It's a program that deletes your free space so that files cannot be recovered. Before selling my computer I ran it, for its maximum 35 passes and used some recovery program which recovered nothing. I then tested it by creating a file and deleting it, the program recovered it, i ran clean disk, the program couldn't recover it anymore. You have to do more than one pass though. The reviews for it were all good...but i was wondering if they were fake. Two people who posted questions on here said it didn't work. Maybe I just used a crappy recovery program?

What are your opinions on it?

If I was going to sell a computer I would wipe the entire hard drive and then reload the operating system and drivers.

I would use Darik's Boot and Nuke SE (free)

Revised Answer:

Ok, I see what you mean. That program works well if, like you mentioned, if you run multiple passes over your hard drive. Deleting the file outright or using a small amount of passes, you will be able to recover it. Bad recovery software might or might not be able to recover it. With professional recovery software it most likely will be recovered. However, if you used the maximum amount of passes, then it's history. I am not sure you told you it didn't work, but they are incorrect. If you still feel insecure, try to obtain a better recovery program, but I doubt you will see those files again.

Computer job vs manual labor job?

I have been debating about giving up the computer field all together and going into a manual labor job working for the railroad or at US Steel. Here are some some reasons why.

Although I have a college degree in Computer Information Systems and I had great grades, everyone just seems so much smarter than me in this field. I feel I can't match up.

I can get a job working for the railroad for the same pay, better benefits, less stress, low job expectations, and everyone in those jobs seems to be more at my intelligence level.

You don't have to be a productive worker as a railroad engineer, at least that is what my stepdad who works for the railroad tells me. In fact if you are productive they will find a way to fire you.

Great job security, you can't get fired once you join the union and it is lifetime job. The IT industry is on contract and it is easy for them to give you the pink slip.

Railroad engineers make $75,000 a year.

Mistaken Installation of Video Codec on computer made my computer slow. What Can I do??? Ask A Genie

I accidentally installed a video codec on my computer from a site(whose name I can't recall) I got from animekraze.org. Since then my computer has become very slow. Even the most simplest tasks takes an age to be completed. What do I do? My computer has almost 75% of free space.

If so, why can't my Trend Micro Internet Security Suite not detect a thing? Except occasionally it pops out messages saying that they are adwares in my computer, but when I scan for them I find nothing!!

First answer, go to Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, hopefully the codex is listed and can be uninstalled. If not, then hopefully you have System Restore in XP still turned on. You can choose a previous snap shot of your computer before you downloaded the codex. How to do it, go to Help on your Windows Task bar, type in System Restore, and it will let you run it from there. Hopefully this will clear up all the junk. Part two, after the restore, download a reputable codex pack from: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Code... I have never had problems with it to date. Best of luck.

Computer needs to be completely erased and reinstalled with windows XP, major virus & spyware is

So our computer is completely overran with tons of spyware and a virus that has completely taken over. We pay for high speed internet and no joke it is 50x slower then AOL. When you do a search on yahoo for anything ex: cats then click on the one you want to read it will take me to an advertising site rather then the site i intended to go to then it is impossible to get out, we got norton internet security which helped it alot but it still has something and is getting worse and worse i know its about to crash. My IT guy at work says to wipe the hard drive and reinstall windows, I have a newer compaq comp. got it in 05 dont have a ton of crap/stuff on there storage isnt an issue. It didnt come with a windows CD to reinstall, he told me that you do it yourself now and go burn the windows to a cd yourself then reinstall it. My question is how do I wipe the hard drive?I am good on computers and can do the reinstallation with no problem at all but wiping the hard drive? Any tips to help me?

First, I'm afraid you will have to get hold of a Windows CD or some kind of recovery CD that sets your computer back to factory settings. Try getting one from the place where you bought your computer from, they should give it to you. If not, download an ISO of your operating system from thepiratebay.org (technically illegal, but since you already have the operating system you are entitled to the CD of it, and you're not going to get caught) and burn it to a CD/DVD using a program such as Nero, Cyberlink Power2Go or MagicISO (this one is free, just google it).

The issue described doesn't fit the answer. You seem to indicate one of your troubleshooting steps had already been to reinstall IE quote "I have installed the newest Internet explorer". Meaning the issue was present before this as well. Report It

although i cannot tell without seeing the pc, i would have to say you have some infections causing the issues, most likely spyware/adware (malware) goto ewido.com and download thier trial software, install it, and scan your pc in safe mode (to get into safe mode, restart the pc, keep pressing F8 untill you get the boot options, pick safe mode, login to Administrator, run ewido, clean out, then restart the pc to get back into regular mode) if you end up with a few thousand traces of infections, then unfortunately the cleaning will not completly help, because the infections already caused the damage.
Proxim is a wireless access card which means you are connecting to a wireless base station of some sort. If you can connect directly to your internet modem with an ethernet cable and produce the same problem then it is your modem settings on the modem causing the problem, if it doesn't happen when connected directly then the setting on the modem or wireless base station providing your wireless connection has some settings blocking that access.

I dunno how or even if you can do that. Just password protect your PC (Start%26gt;Control Panel%26gt;User Accounts%26gt;Your account%26gt;Create password) Might not be a good idea to have all that personal info on there at all. And also crashing your PC might corrupt the data on there, same goes as if a virus gets in.
Ok this is how to crash ur buddy computer but u can do it on urs http://www.metacafe.com/watch/838289/how...
Sorry I just figured I can't help you. Well obviously you didn't mean that you were literally going to crash your computer.
lololol.. ever try a password? Mine's about 20 chars long, including symbols- it'd take a lifetime to brute force it.
None of the answers seem very good to me. What would a bios password do I ask? All they would have to do is take our your hard drive.

Think about this for a second. If someone was after you (bad guy from mission impossible) they would simply remove your hard drive when they got ahold of your computer, and copy the data to a blank drive. From there, they have an exact copy.

If you want to protect your information, you need encryption.

128 bit plus, with acceptable passwords. You can encrypt the entire hard drive partition, and then additionally individual files as well.

Make sure whatever program you are using, it securely erases memory and temp files of the decrypted / encrypted information.

But really, unless you are 007 himself... why?

I think Zone Alarm Security Suite disconnects my MSN?

I have ZoneAlarm Security Suite version 7.0.337.000, I guess the new one. when I start the computer, I connect to internet normally, zone alarm starts automatically, no problems. then I connect on MSN (windows live messenger 8.1) and it works for a minute but then msn is suddenly disconnected. like if internet line is dropped. then I just reconnect and everything is normal.

today I just instaled zone alarm and before msn was allways working with no problems, but now its this problem.

btw I have XP

so what could be a problem?

and how do I add to zone alarm those programs that I use, like for example that zone alarm wont block Morpheus.

Well actually there is options in Zone Alarm where you can choose what you want to block %26 what you don't want to block. So just add morpeus or whatever program you want to unblock or exceptions. But usually Zone Alarm for some or the other reason blocks MSN Messenger which I don't know why.

Most of all Zone Alarm is the most irritating, annoying, stupid thing that I've ever installed in my computer. It like blocks everything or asks permission every time you open a new program. But I reccommend you to use AVG Antivirus coz it also does the work of anti spywares I suppose.

SO have fun.......

I have a question concerning security software.?

My computer skills are beginner/intermediate. I purposely left out the product names. (The question is at the end.)

My main security software has a spyware/adware feature that is up and running with the rest of the suite.

I have an independent, and reputable, spyware/adware program that I recently downloaded and installed. It seems a better program so far because it detected and removed some things that the other spyware/adware program didn't.

Are they going to cause conflicts if I deactivate the one in my main security suite and use the new software that I downloaded?

Thank you in advance.

I have a question concerning security software.?bmw

It would have been best to have mentioned the names.

In general you can run more than one anti-spyware app as long as no more than one is providing resident, real-time protection. You can use as many on-demand anti-spyware scanners as you want. Most people who are serious about computer security use several as no single program can find them all.

I have a question concerning security software.?free adware remover

Although they probably won't conflict, if you have the CD (or the installation file) for the original program, I'd suggest uninstalling it and using the NEW one. This will make sure they don't conflict. Running both programs uses more RAM than necessary.
Its ok to have more than one anti spyware, but NEVER use more than one anti virus, as they will conflict with each other.

How do i stop these security popups?

Could be spyware issue...download spybot and adaware 2007...run it to check for any spyware and malware.

Also it could be an overheating issue, check to see if there is any dust on the system itself.

One other thing you can do is run taskmanager and see what happens when the system crashes, does the cpu get overused or maybe the ram is not enough

Maybe a malware ( malicious software: virus, spyware ) deleted some important Win32 files, which is vital to keep the PC running. I think the only way to recover them back is to set your computer back to default, which I recommend reformatting your PC or system restoring it.

I doubt it would be spyware anyway. Spyware is more of a tracking malware. It should probably be a virus. But your PC might have spyware, considering the fact you don't have any spyware protection. I recommend googling for the following which are free:

I just formatted my computer, is re-installing Windows updates necessary?

I just recently formatted my computer due to a virus, and since then, I've had 14 GB free. As soon as the automatic updates started popping up, I've started to install them again, and 20 of 69 updates in, it had cost my computer almost 2 GB of space. Is it really necessary to re-install all the previous Windows updates? They take so much space, and they may cause the computer to slow down again, and even crash. I already have a virus scanner, and a firewall, Symantec Client Security installed to back me up.

I just formatted my computer, is re-installing Windows updates necessary?computer security

absolutely. if you don't install the updates over again you'll be running a dangerously unpatched version of windows and be subject to all sorts of security problems. get a bigger hard drive if you need it.

I just formatted my computer, is re-installing Windows updates necessary?free spyware remobal

yes.
Yes you need them Windows is notoriously unsecure your virus scan will be handicapped with out them
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unless you want more hackers or virus's, sounds like you might want to add a second or a bigger hard drive.
even with a firewall and anti-virus, going on the net with an unpatched Windows box is verryyy risky...

Is Bush spending enough on Homeland Security?

Shouldn't the Department of Homeland Security be the most federally protected division under our government, especially in this day and age? Especially with our nation at war? Especially since this department was created specifically BECAUSE of attacks against our country?

Why, then, is it suffering from hackers and computer viruses? Shouldn't we be able to spend whatever it takes to get the most skilled computer people and software (and hardware too) in order to protect this department from cyber invasion?

Or is it more important to kill Iraqis?

Is Bush spending enough on Homeland Security?computer virus

He is spending way too much.

The problem with his regime is that somehow, the money he spends just plain disappears, and nobody knows anything about how it disappeared, neither do they know how to trace it to the person responsible.

I think it is more important to kill Iranian terrorists in Iraq.
Bush is spending way too much, we need to have our government spend our money wisely. I would prefer the borders get attention before computers.

I have a 1994 poniac bonneville, and the security light is flashing.?

It also isnt starting when it is flashing. I dont know what it is. I have heard i need a computer moduale. Is that really all I need. I just got a remote start, keyless entry, and alarm put in like 4 months ago and the security light started turning on about 2 months ago and everytime I try to start the car if the security light comes on it wont start I have to wait a couple minutes. my main problem not is for the past week the security light is now blinking, and I am having more trouble starting my car. I wont start even if I wait an HOUR! What is wrong??

I have a 1994 poniac bonneville, and the security light is flashing.?computer

i agree with (whip it real) your car has a sensor in the ignition cylinder and a chip in the key, the car won't start till it checks and sees the proper reading from the key, if you had a remote starter put in, they have to bypass that sensor to trick the car into thinking the key is in the ignition for the remote starter. sounds like the did a bad job bypassing that system.

I have a 1994 poniac bonneville, and the security light is flashing.?free spyware

Security light comes on when you lock your car with the keys or remote keyless entry thing.

When you installed the remote start it may not be turning it off, which in turn makes it so you can't start your car.
You need a module to disengage the security feature. And also hook up a wire that discharges a negative impluse at the start up to bypass the security system and unlock the doors. ANd your gonna need andother key. Hope
You should really call a mechanic.
Take the car to a mechanic or ur nearest pontiac dealer before it explodes or something.
bring it back to who did the alarm. it sounds like they didnt bypass the factory alarm right, or it may be the chip in your key,if you have one

Whats better: Windows Live One Care, or Norton Internet Security?

I have Norton %26 Spybot installed on one computer and Windows Live One Care on another. What I like about Windows is that everything is done automatically (i.e. updates, scans, disk defrag, disk clean-up). However, I have the feeling that Windows doesn't do as good of a job as the other computer with Norton and Spybot in regards to keeping spyware and viruses off the machine. I just installed Spybot on the computer that has Windows and a scan showed 57 spyware programs that Windows didn't catch. So my question is: which combo is better Windows Live One Care, or Norton Internet Security and Spybot?

Whats better: Windows Live One Care, or Norton Internet Security?computers

Windows Live OneCare is awesome. It's really streamlined and it works out real well. Norton's old and yucky. I mean who knows the Windows operating system better than Microsoft? OneCare will probaly do better than the other since there are system ties to everything. I know some people would say MSFT is ripping you off on your OS to buy OneCare for security, but it's only because of stupid anti-trust rules, and if they did that, Norton, Symantec, and the others would go out of business. Windows Live OneCare is awesome, and Microsoft lately has been trying harder to do better, and I think it's finally working.

Whats better: Windows Live One Care, or Norton Internet Security?hijack this

I have windows live one care, and never had any problems with it. You can use it on 3 computers. I also use lavasoft adaware, and when I run that, it usually will pick up a few things. Remember, you should use two or more different antispyware programs, on any computer. Good Luck..
norton is good it also has automatic update fetures and auto scan i think u have not used it properly
Norton Internet
None get Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0, it catched 99.2 percent of all viruses.
Neither - AVG - www.grisoftt.com - It is free and better than any out there.

What fields are good (hot) in computer networking?

I am going to school for computer networking, currently for my ccna. I would really like to get into network design (a CCDP), but I don't want to pigeonhole myself into an section of IT with only a handful of jobs. I thought about security too, but worry about the same problems.

Are there enough jobs in Design and Security to justify getting a CCDP or CCSP, or would someone be better off going with a more broad-spectrum cert like CCNP or MCSE? Also, would a more popular certification cover design and security enough so if I wanted to do one of those specialized jobs I would still know what to do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Those are all great certifications. But keep in mind that without work experience you will not be able to find a job. You need to have both.

Cheers!

CCDP and CCSP both are very good choices.

CCDP- You will end up in regular working hours, feel a lot more satisfied by end of the day seeing your work.

CCSP- Means a better secured place, with a bit of night shifts, yes you can affrod to sleep. Normally less work.

I don't belive in free things at all, i have seen the reviews on AVG and other free anti-virus but they are rated as average and not "highly recommended".

The best antivirus is Nod32 from ESET, www.eset.com. For internet security get ESET Smart Security.

So i have Norton Anti Virus and Internet Security, but in the past couple days I've been getting popups from differnt anti-spyware companies through the internet telling me that I have trojans and secret information exposed on my computer and that I should download thier softwares in order to prevent it. I ran a Norton Scan and it only came up with two threats, and I destroyed them both. My computer stopped running slow and my default homepage went back to normal, but I'm still getting the popups! Are people just trying to sell me there software or do I really have something on my computer?

Please! I need computer help!?firewall

Use some other software. AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

Please! I need computer help!?husqvarna

they're just trying to sell you their products. as long as you're protected by norton, you don't have to worry.
if ur norton virus thing is expired u should get a new software for security but if its valid ur ok thers just stupid stuff that want to slow down ur computer dont be fooled by the popups
Yeah, it's just spam.

It was the same for my friend's computer.

If your computer was seriously THAT infected, you would be running so slow you wouldn't even be able to post that question.

Find a way to block those popups. That's the only thing that's really bugging your computer.
its spyware ... get spybot search and destroy .. got too download.com *100% save sites* then csearch spybot search and destroy. - run the updates then scan ...

What Have I done to my computer?

I have a 2005 Dell XPS Media center computer. Recently I have been getting message such as "system not responding" with various names such as sprtcmd.exe, MSAScui.exe,Media Center, explorer.exe, and McAgent_Main_Hidden.... ; I understand these are possible errors with explorer, McAfee Security, but I have been unsucessful in clearing up the problem. I believe this is causing my computer to run much slower. Please give me some insight on this and what I might do to rectify the problem. Oh, I have used various reputable spyware systems, but, it reads my computer is functioning properly, and that cannot be the case when it takes 3 minutes for the computer to turn off or my window applications read "Not responding". I appreciate the help and Happy Holidays.

What Have I done to my computer?free anti virus

The ultimate bottleneck for any computer is the processor. Everything that happens on your computer goes through the processor.

If you have a large number of applications running on the computer and the processor speed is rated less than 2 Ghz that could be the reason for the system not responding errors.

The 3 minute shutdown time for the computer also points in this direction-a lot of apps waiting in line for processor time.

The other main choke point is RAM, everything must be loaded into the RAM for it to run. If the available amount is less than 1 GB in WinXP, then it will have an appreciable impact on system speed.

Do I need Norton Systemworks AND Internet Security? I need to renew subscription very soon. What should I buyfree spyware remobal

Better than free trials there are free anti virus software available just in-case your like me and a bit cautious about these things. First ans is right too but if want go to downloads.com and check the anti virus software out. What I do is then filter the data to show freeware and highest rated by cnet. You can read the reviews and then download whichever you think is suitable. Usually the highest rated by cnet is what I go for but it might depend on what the individuals needs are as well.

You can also do the same for firewall, I think zonelabs is still the highest rated on there but haven't checked for a while.

Good luck.

Do I need Norton Systemworks AND Internet Security? I need to renew subscription very soon. What should I buykawasaki

No i wouldn;t have thought so, if its saying you need to renew it, why not try just downloading another free trial of Norton Antivirus from the google pack available on Google. It gives you longer then to comtemplate whether or not next time to buy both items together or not.
I like Norton Internet Security--it offers a well-rounded suite of applications to keep your computer secure while surfing the Internet. I do not, however, like Systemworks. I think it adds too much overhead for what it does. Many of the tools included in Systemworks are already found built into Windows. So I'd get the NIS, but not the SystemWorks.

Trouble installing two 3-user licenses of Norton Internet Security 2008?

I bought two 3-user licenses of Norton Internet Security 2008 from symantecstore.com (they had a discount promo). I was able to successfully install the first license on my primary computer. I can successfully share the license with 2 other computers. It's the second license I'm having trouble with. At symantecstore.com, after you close the purchase, you have to download an application that initiates download. I think I accidentally (or unavoidably) started up this application and therefore started the download for the second license. I launched this app in another computer, and the download/installation did not complete. Moreover, the second licenses hasn't turned up in my norton account yet. What should I do?

And yes, I know I should have just bought another product key from mynortonaccount.com but I wanted to maximize the discount promo benefit.
