I just formatted my computer, is re-installing Windows updates necessary?

I just recently formatted my computer due to a virus, and since then, I've had 14 GB free. As soon as the automatic updates started popping up, I've started to install them again, and 20 of 69 updates in, it had cost my computer almost 2 GB of space. Is it really necessary to re-install all the previous Windows updates? They take so much space, and they may cause the computer to slow down again, and even crash. I already have a virus scanner, and a firewall, Symantec Client Security installed to back me up.

absolutely. if you don't install the updates over again you'll be running a dangerously unpatched version of windows and be subject to all sorts of security problems. get a bigger hard drive if you need it.

yes.
Yes you need them Windows is notoriously unsecure your virus scan will be handicapped with out them
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unless you want more hackers or virus's, sounds like you might want to add a second or a bigger hard drive.
even with a firewall and anti-virus, going on the net with an unpatched Windows box is verryyy risky...
