Paying cash for security vs. free downloads?

My new Presario had Norton 2007 preinstalled and the subsription expired.I bought AVG 7.5 security for $69.00 and my computer runs totally faster now.I know there's alot of you out there who'll say that I'm ignorant for paying vs. downloading a bunch of different free programs.I'm just wary of these "free" downloads and the qaulity/compatibility issues that could arise.

Commercial versions are always updated more quickly for new viruses and are usually much more robust than their free counterpart.

The free version is much better than none, but a commercial one is definitely safer.

if you afford paying, good for you, but if you are careful you can download a lot of programs without any problems
It's your money, that's fine, it's your business. I also brought my own anti virus program, spyware program, etc. There is something for everyone out there on the net, those that don't have much cash freeware is great.
