Computer certifications or bacherlor's degree? Need a job for Australia.?

I am 25 and live in the U.S. I want to move to Australia indefinitely and work after I get my certifications/degrees. They have a lot of computer related jobs available all the time which makes migration a whole lot easier for me.

I am going to start college next year but the problem is deciding what to do in computers. I have an interest in networking/security, database stuff, and IT. However, I don't really like computer repair or physically setting up networks a lot. I also do not want a straight programming job. System admin stuff seems interesting. Any suggestions?

Everything is so confusing as there are so many different fields that seem related. I had thought about getting a computer science BS/BA degree but I was told it's pretty much worthless because it doesn't mean much. Is it better to go after actual certifications (CCNA, CCNP, etc.) or to have a uni degree?

Also, I want to make sure that whatever I specialize in is in demand and not just a waste of time and money.
