Purchased Symantec Norton Internet Security Professional hoping to speed up my computer and eliminate virus's, but my computer is still sluggish. It takes forever at startup. Is there anything I can do without spending any additional money?

If you have norton security then it should find,destroy and notify you if it locates a virus.Although viruses do slow computers down it will also cause the computer to acta erratic and give you probl.while on line-kick you out of programs,have trouble connecting and so forth but if your computer is just sluggish could be a number of things. 1-get rid of your internet junk for every time you connect to something its stored in a internet file and if you allow to accumulate will slow you down 2.Programs on your computer you aren't using,outdatd-get rid of them 3. How much are you downloading-the more you store the slower esp at startup 4.check all your connections to make sure nothing loose 5.have phone co.check your phone line-call customer service no from your phone bill and inquire about it. Are you closing out programs and so on when you leave for make sure you do for otherwise will have program(s) running in background-will definitely slow down 6.Are you running too many programs at the same time-only run whats necessary. 7.also periodically-I do daily clear your search-tool bar for will also keep history of your internet connections. The More you have on your computer the slower it will run so only download what you actually need for all you download takes up space and be awaare that some downloads incl.Yahoo will have plugins so always read privacy etc statments -read all information given before you download.Sometimes you download 1-program but get 1-2 etc ith it-be caareful of that too but will tell you.
