What security software is essential for my computer?

I'm always downloading stuff, always on the net. So is their anything at all you can think of I need to get.

Okay, not having computer security software (anti-virus, anti-spyware etc...) leaves your computer open to all sorts of attacks:

- Adware (pop-ups come up from all over the place when your browsing the internet, even when your not connected!)

- Hijacking (Hijacks your web browser, for example when you load up internet explorer it takes you to a random website, usually one that encourages you to download something.)

- Spyware (the most dangerous in my opinion, if you buy things off Ebay etc... then spyware records your key strokes and emails them to the spyware creator. He/she will then steal money from your bank account/hack any accounts on the internet that you have)

- Viruses (if you don't get these removed, they will basically destroy your computer, files lost etc... NOTE: these are very hard to remove)

- Trojan horse (Installs other malicious programes on your computer NOTE: very, very hard to remove)

All of these can be caught, like a cold, from downloading dodgey files.

You have 2 options now, either to spend money on a GOOD anti-virus programme, or trust a free one.
