There was a command I used before in Windows Command Prompt that allows you to disable your computer from advertising itself on the network so when other people view their Network Places they cannot see your computer or shares unless they type in the path manually.
I know you can hide shares by appending a $ to the end of the share name. But I am looking to hide my computer.
This is Windows 2003 but I done this on Windows XP before. I could not find it in security settings in MMC.
Hide my computer and shares on other PC's Network Places?panda
NET CONFIG SERVER /HIDDEN:YES
works in NT/2K/XP not sure about 2003.
You could also change a registry setting (disclaimer... if you know what you're doing!!) see link
