Windows Security?

Hi, I have windows security on my laptop, can I still install Free AVG, I am not sure what kind of protection I have on my computer, I need firewall, spyware, and antivirus, I had McAfee, but it says it expired. Please help if you can, remember I am learning as I go, and that is not very fast.
