Is the following a decent security program?

I have Vista with the paid version of AVG Internet Security.I scan and update manually each day.I also have Ad-Aware free version that also I scan once a day.I have System Mechanic 7 that I use about every other day to defragment and optimize my computer. My Windows update is current, and that's about it.I'm very new at this,Is there anything that I should add for additional security??Thankyou for your reply.

Is the following a decent security program?house call

pack.google.com

spyware doctor is included in the pack and is great but uses alot of memory - only use if you have memory to spare

If you have a suspicious file, head over to http://www.virustotal.com and upload it to have several different virus scanners analyze it.

spybot S%26D is a good spyware detector

I have experienced that sys mech 7 uses an awful lot of system resources and quit using it. I don't like it, but that is just my personal opinion.

AVG is great and should work well.

There are several online virus scans. TrendMicro has housecall. While there you might download hijackthis and cwshredder. These two programs are great tools to see if your browser has been hijacked.

Trouble installing two 3-user licenses of Norton Internet Security 2008?

I bought two 3-user licenses of Norton Internet Security 2008 from symantecstore.com (they had a discount promo). I was able to successfully install the first license on my primary computer. I can successfully share the license with 2 other computers. It's the second license I'm having trouble with. At symantecstore.com, after you close the purchase, you have to download an application that initiates download. I think I accidentally (or unavoidably) started up this application and therefore started the download for the second license. I launched this app in another computer, and the download/installation did not complete. Moreover, the second licenses hasn't turned up in my norton account yet. What should I do?

And yes, I know I should have just bought another product key from mynortonaccount.com but I wanted to maximize the discount promo benefit.

My Computer is Infected!!?

Ok.... Whenever I go on my computer, there are about 10 different windows about programs I haven't even downloaded. They all say "You're computer is infected. You needed to take the appropriate measures now." I can't tell which windows are actually REAL, and which are not!! There are a few programs that have downloaded themselves- WinSpyKiller and AntiSpywareShield. I tried to delete them, but it constantly says, "To perform this action you must exit WinSpyKiller first." When I try to exit them, it comes up with a lose-lose situation- you can not exit unless you let it "continue evaluating" (which doesn't exit it) or purchase it. In fact, it is coming up right now with thousands of these things!! Also, there is a so called "Security Toolbar 7.1" and whenever I go to google it directs me to a whole other website when i click on a link!! It keeps saying "This can steal your bank info, and someone is watching you. Download this, blah blah blah." It pops up explicit pics too. Can you help?

Yes, it is!

Use an antivirus. If they don't detect the malware then contact them because they'll fix the problems for you (add detection for the undetected malware and eventually create a removal tool).

Use one of the following (or more if they don't find anything):

My computer is playing up!!!?

When I switch my computer on the - sometimes the monitor doesn't switch on. It makes all the right noises but nothing happens on screen. Whats happening? I've recently had everything updated from Windows 2000 to XP. Its all gone down hill since then. I've changed the monitor today and its still happening. I've got McAfee Security on including fire wall - could it be a virus?

I've also checked there is no wires loose!!

Please help going mad. Also please answer in plain english - not up on computer jargon.

Thanks

your monitor could be damaged, if you can't see absolutely nothing. You can try entering to the bios, or in safe mode, pressing F8 , you should see a menu that indicates which way you want to start. Also you should check your connections, or your graphic card, it could be damaged too, so you have to be sure if your MONITOR or your GRAPHIC card is damaged, try to connect your monitor on another PC.

My computer has a virus! What do you suggest I do?

I ran every virus and spyware program you can think of and It says that it's still infected. It doesn't prevent me from doing anything. I can still sign online, etc. It's just that when I sign on, in the bottom left corner of the screen in the icon tray, there is this icon that appears and it's a white X in a red circle and when i move my cursor over it, it says, "Your computer is infected."...and my cursor is no longer just the arrow, it ALWAYS has the small hour glass beside it as if it's waiting for something to load and it blinks rapidly (is there a virus that makes this happen?). I think my computer is doing alot better than it was but I don't it's completely over whatever it had. PLEASE HELP. I downloaded AOL Saftey and Security Center since I am a member of AOL and I try to click the Virus Protector on but it won't turn on. I'm so desperate and frustrated.

Yuor PC is infected by spyware/trojan, the one you described is not easy to remove, try the following :

Download Spybot, update it, then run to remove the spywares.

http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-De...

Then go to www.bitdefender.com and do an online scan.

Then download Avast professional (30 day trial no key needed) and install it, it will ask if yuo wish to scan after restart, say yes to it.

you could try ending some of your processes via control-alt-delete and then run a virus scan. you could try a different browser ie. mozilla firefox which is what I use. and last but not least ...as much as I hate to say it make backups of all your files you want to keep, and wipe your hard drive clean (I had to do it a couple weeks ago. It was a huge pain but it runs like new again)

Computer certifications?

I have my A+, would it help my career to get other certifications like Network+, or Security+? I don't want an entirely new career, just to enhance my career as a computer technician.

Computer certifications?internet

Network + helps greatly.

Security + is different from network so don't get cocky.

I have my CISSP. Study for that and make sure you get low level and middle level experience.

Down side to getting a bunch of certs or mentioning it is interviewers sometimes like at you like a cert- whor3(sorry).

network+ and cissp has helped me greatly.
