I have a question concerning security software.?

My computer skills are beginner/intermediate. I purposely left out the product names. (The question is at the end.)

My main security software has a spyware/adware feature that is up and running with the rest of the suite.

I have an independent, and reputable, spyware/adware program that I recently downloaded and installed. It seems a better program so far because it detected and removed some things that the other spyware/adware program didn't.

Are they going to cause conflicts if I deactivate the one in my main security suite and use the new software that I downloaded?

Thank you in advance.

I have a question concerning security software.?bmw

It would have been best to have mentioned the names.

In general you can run more than one anti-spyware app as long as no more than one is providing resident, real-time protection. You can use as many on-demand anti-spyware scanners as you want. Most people who are serious about computer security use several as no single program can find them all.

I have a question concerning security software.?free adware remover

Although they probably won't conflict, if you have the CD (or the installation file) for the original program, I'd suggest uninstalling it and using the NEW one. This will make sure they don't conflict. Running both programs uses more RAM than necessary.
Its ok to have more than one anti spyware, but NEVER use more than one anti virus, as they will conflict with each other.

How do i stop these security popups?

Computer keeps crashing?

Hi everyone please help i have a hi- grade computer[dont know if that

makes any difference] it runs on xp on orange broadband.the only security is avg 7.5 free addition .the problem is it keeps crashing does anyone have any ideas what it might be it is driving me mad. Thanks for looking and i hope someone can solve my problem

Computer keeps crashing?computer protection

Could be spyware issue...download spybot and adaware 2007...run it to check for any spyware and malware.

Also it could be an overheating issue, check to see if there is any dust on the system itself.

One other thing you can do is run taskmanager and see what happens when the system crashes, does the cpu get overused or maybe the ram is not enough

Computer keeps crashing?free antivirus download

Maybe a malware ( malicious software: virus, spyware ) deleted some important Win32 files, which is vital to keep the PC running. I think the only way to recover them back is to set your computer back to default, which I recommend reformatting your PC or system restoring it.

I doubt it would be spyware anyway. Spyware is more of a tracking malware. It should probably be a virus. But your PC might have spyware, considering the fact you don't have any spyware protection. I recommend googling for the following which are free:

Having computer issues...need help...?

I have a Acer Laptop, Aspire 3680 model...Its 3 months old so the anti-virus program it had on it when I bought it ran out. I bought a cheap program called Defender Pro 2008 5-in-1 and that's when the problems started.

I had uninstalled the old anti-virus program that it came with before installing the new one, but everytime the Defender program is even running...the computer is sloowwww. It takes forever just to get any type of window to open up.

I have tried uninstalling Defender Pro, but everytime it tries "stopping utilities" in the uninstall window...a error pops up reading:

Error 1921.Service Defender Pro Internet Security (AVP) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services.

I've tried a search using info from the error message, but nothing when it comes to Defender Pro itself.

I just want to uninstall this program, its been nothing but trouble for the last week its been on my computer. Please help?

Thanks. :)

I just formatted my computer, is re-installing Windows updates necessary?

I just recently formatted my computer due to a virus, and since then, I've had 14 GB free. As soon as the automatic updates started popping up, I've started to install them again, and 20 of 69 updates in, it had cost my computer almost 2 GB of space. Is it really necessary to re-install all the previous Windows updates? They take so much space, and they may cause the computer to slow down again, and even crash. I already have a virus scanner, and a firewall, Symantec Client Security installed to back me up.

I just formatted my computer, is re-installing Windows updates necessary?computer security

absolutely. if you don't install the updates over again you'll be running a dangerously unpatched version of windows and be subject to all sorts of security problems. get a bigger hard drive if you need it.

I just formatted my computer, is re-installing Windows updates necessary?free spyware remobal

yes.
Yes you need them Windows is notoriously unsecure your virus scan will be handicapped with out them
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unless you want more hackers or virus's, sounds like you might want to add a second or a bigger hard drive.
even with a firewall and anti-virus, going on the net with an unpatched Windows box is verryyy risky...

Is Bush spending enough on Homeland Security?

Shouldn't the Department of Homeland Security be the most federally protected division under our government, especially in this day and age? Especially with our nation at war? Especially since this department was created specifically BECAUSE of attacks against our country?

Why, then, is it suffering from hackers and computer viruses? Shouldn't we be able to spend whatever it takes to get the most skilled computer people and software (and hardware too) in order to protect this department from cyber invasion?

Or is it more important to kill Iraqis?

He is spending way too much.

The problem with his regime is that somehow, the money he spends just plain disappears, and nobody knows anything about how it disappeared, neither do they know how to trace it to the person responsible.

I think it is more important to kill Iranian terrorists in Iraq.

I have a 1994 poniac bonneville, and the security light is flashing.?

It also isnt starting when it is flashing. I dont know what it is. I have heard i need a computer moduale. Is that really all I need. I just got a remote start, keyless entry, and alarm put in like 4 months ago and the security light started turning on about 2 months ago and everytime I try to start the car if the security light comes on it wont start I have to wait a couple minutes. my main problem not is for the past week the security light is now blinking, and I am having more trouble starting my car. I wont start even if I wait an HOUR! What is wrong??

I have a 1994 poniac bonneville, and the security light is flashing.?computer

i agree with (whip it real) your car has a sensor in the ignition cylinder and a chip in the key, the car won't start till it checks and sees the proper reading from the key, if you had a remote starter put in, they have to bypass that sensor to trick the car into thinking the key is in the ignition for the remote starter. sounds like the did a bad job bypassing that system.

I have a 1994 poniac bonneville, and the security light is flashing.?free spyware

Security light comes on when you lock your car with the keys or remote keyless entry thing.

When you installed the remote start it may not be turning it off, which in turn makes it so you can't start your car.
You need a module to disengage the security feature. And also hook up a wire that discharges a negative impluse at the start up to bypass the security system and unlock the doors. ANd your gonna need andother key. Hope
You should really call a mechanic.
Take the car to a mechanic or ur nearest pontiac dealer before it explodes or something.
bring it back to who did the alarm. it sounds like they didnt bypass the factory alarm right, or it may be the chip in your key,if you have one

Whats better: Windows Live One Care, or Norton Internet Security?

I have Norton %26 Spybot installed on one computer and Windows Live One Care on another. What I like about Windows is that everything is done automatically (i.e. updates, scans, disk defrag, disk clean-up). However, I have the feeling that Windows doesn't do as good of a job as the other computer with Norton and Spybot in regards to keeping spyware and viruses off the machine. I just installed Spybot on the computer that has Windows and a scan showed 57 spyware programs that Windows didn't catch. So my question is: which combo is better Windows Live One Care, or Norton Internet Security and Spybot?

Whats better: Windows Live One Care, or Norton Internet Security?computers

Windows Live OneCare is awesome. It's really streamlined and it works out real well. Norton's old and yucky. I mean who knows the Windows operating system better than Microsoft? OneCare will probaly do better than the other since there are system ties to everything. I know some people would say MSFT is ripping you off on your OS to buy OneCare for security, but it's only because of stupid anti-trust rules, and if they did that, Norton, Symantec, and the others would go out of business. Windows Live OneCare is awesome, and Microsoft lately has been trying harder to do better, and I think it's finally working.

Whats better: Windows Live One Care, or Norton Internet Security?hijack this

I have windows live one care, and never had any problems with it. You can use it on 3 computers. I also use lavasoft adaware, and when I run that, it usually will pick up a few things. Remember, you should use two or more different antispyware programs, on any computer. Good Luck..
norton is good it also has automatic update fetures and auto scan i think u have not used it properly
Norton Internet
None get Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0, it catched 99.2 percent of all viruses.
Neither - AVG - www.grisoftt.com - It is free and better than any out there.

What fields are good (hot) in computer networking?

I am going to school for computer networking, currently for my ccna. I would really like to get into network design (a CCDP), but I don't want to pigeonhole myself into an section of IT with only a handful of jobs. I thought about security too, but worry about the same problems.

Are there enough jobs in Design and Security to justify getting a CCDP or CCSP, or would someone be better off going with a more broad-spectrum cert like CCNP or MCSE? Also, would a more popular certification cover design and security enough so if I wanted to do one of those specialized jobs I would still know what to do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Those are all great certifications. But keep in mind that without work experience you will not be able to find a job. You need to have both.

CCDP and CCSP both are very good choices.

CCDP- You will end up in regular working hours, feel a lot more satisfied by end of the day seeing your work.

CCSP- Means a better secured place, with a bit of night shifts, yes you can affrod to sleep. Normally less work.

What Have I done to my computer?

I have a 2005 Dell XPS Media center computer. Recently I have been getting message such as "system not responding" with various names such as sprtcmd.exe, MSAScui.exe,Media Center, explorer.exe, and McAgent_Main_Hidden.... ; I understand these are possible errors with explorer, McAfee Security, but I have been unsucessful in clearing up the problem. I believe this is causing my computer to run much slower. Please give me some insight on this and what I might do to rectify the problem. Oh, I have used various reputable spyware systems, but, it reads my computer is functioning properly, and that cannot be the case when it takes 3 minutes for the computer to turn off or my window applications read "Not responding". I appreciate the help and Happy Holidays.

What Have I done to my computer?free anti virus

The ultimate bottleneck for any computer is the processor. Everything that happens on your computer goes through the processor.

If you have a large number of applications running on the computer and the processor speed is rated less than 2 Ghz that could be the reason for the system not responding errors.

The 3 minute shutdown time for the computer also points in this direction-a lot of apps waiting in line for processor time.

The other main choke point is RAM, everything must be loaded into the RAM for it to run. If the available amount is less than 1 GB in WinXP, then it will have an appreciable impact on system speed.

Do I need Norton Systemworks AND Internet Security? I need to renew subscription very soon. What should I buyfree spyware remobal

Better than free trials there are free anti virus software available just in-case your like me and a bit cautious about these things. First ans is right too but if want go to downloads.com and check the anti virus software out. What I do is then filter the data to show freeware and highest rated by cnet. You can read the reviews and then download whichever you think is suitable. Usually the highest rated by cnet is what I go for but it might depend on what the individuals needs are as well.

You can also do the same for firewall, I think zonelabs is still the highest rated on there but haven't checked for a while.

Good luck.

Do I need Norton Systemworks AND Internet Security? I need to renew subscription very soon. What should I buykawasaki

No i wouldn;t have thought so, if its saying you need to renew it, why not try just downloading another free trial of Norton Antivirus from the google pack available on Google. It gives you longer then to comtemplate whether or not next time to buy both items together or not.
I like Norton Internet Security--it offers a well-rounded suite of applications to keep your computer secure while surfing the Internet. I do not, however, like Systemworks. I think it adds too much overhead for what it does. Many of the tools included in Systemworks are already found built into Windows. So I'd get the NIS, but not the SystemWorks.

Trouble installing two 3-user licenses of Norton Internet Security 2008?

I bought two 3-user licenses of Norton Internet Security 2008 from symantecstore.com (they had a discount promo). I was able to successfully install the first license on my primary computer. I can successfully share the license with 2 other computers. It's the second license I'm having trouble with. At symantecstore.com, after you close the purchase, you have to download an application that initiates download. I think I accidentally (or unavoidably) started up this application and therefore started the download for the second license. I launched this app in another computer, and the download/installation did not complete. Moreover, the second licenses hasn't turned up in my norton account yet. What should I do?

My Computer is Infected!!?

Ok.... Whenever I go on my computer, there are about 10 different windows about programs I haven't even downloaded. They all say "You're computer is infected. You needed to take the appropriate measures now." I can't tell which windows are actually REAL, and which are not!! There are a few programs that have downloaded themselves- WinSpyKiller and AntiSpywareShield. I tried to delete them, but it constantly says, "To perform this action you must exit WinSpyKiller first." When I try to exit them, it comes up with a lose-lose situation- you can not exit unless you let it "continue evaluating" (which doesn't exit it) or purchase it. In fact, it is coming up right now with thousands of these things!! Also, there is a so called "Security Toolbar 7.1" and whenever I go to google it directs me to a whole other website when i click on a link!! It keeps saying "This can steal your bank info, and someone is watching you. Download this, blah blah blah." It pops up explicit pics too. Can you help?

your monitor could be damaged, if you can't see absolutely nothing. You can try entering to the bios, or in safe mode, pressing F8 , you should see a menu that indicates which way you want to start. Also you should check your connections, or your graphic card, it could be damaged too, so you have to be sure if your MONITOR or your GRAPHIC card is damaged, try to connect your monitor on another PC.

The safest way will be for you to connect directly to the internet through the router if possible, or if you're on a dialup connection, to connect from your computer.

Privacy advocates protest as half of Ohio birthing centers turn to tracking technology

Over half the birthing facilities in Ohio are being equipped with an RFID infant protection system placed on infants at birth to prevent them from being abducted from the hospital or from being given to the wrong mother.

"Standard protocol in the hospitals using the VeriChip system is that the baby receives an RFID anklet at birth and the mother receives a matching wristband," VeriChip spokeswoman Allison Tomek told WND. "The mothers are not asked."

My buddy told me to go to Exit and Load Setup Defaults so that my computer would be wiped and I could reinstall XP. Well now that I did that it starts up with the DELL logo and I have the options of F2 and F12 if I want. But then once it loads I get a black screen that says NTLDR is missing Press Any Key to Restart. When I hit any keys it just says the same thing?! If I Get a Degree In Security Management can I become a Security Data Analyst?

Im thinking I could, but just to be sure I wanted to know. I want to go to Devry and major in Security management which would be under Computer/Information Sciences. Would this be the right major to go into if I wanted to be a Security Data Analyst?

Thanks in advance.

If I Get a Degree In Security Management can I become a Security Data Analyst?internet security

It is possible that it could get you into a security analyst position.... but nothing is 100%. To get into almost any larger company you'll need a college degree of some type. If you like computer security then by all means go for it. You will probably need to start off as helpdesk, server team and work your way to security analyst... unless you're already writing exploits, patches or security software. then you might be able to sell yourself to the right company without the degree.

Also pay mind to ceritifcations.... a college degree with certifications will help. Security+ is a good start.

Best of luck

My computer has a mind of its own...?

After years of using my computer it decides on its own to restart and acts like its brand new again. Everything that I had on my desk top and saved in files and folders was what I thought was lost but found it later under a different User in Document and Settings. I am the only one using this computer. I use wireless cable network, does that compromise my security more so than with a direct connect cable? Is someone hacking into my computer or is it virus? I have security protection Ive downloaded from the internet already installed, should I buy a better one?

I dont have the option to do a system restore like other computers. I just want to know whats the cause and to be able to prevent it from happening again. Thanks!

You need to de-activate your Operating System's built in firewall then restart the PC. Alternatively take a closer look at your web browser's toolbar. You should see the Norton Anti-Virus icon on there somewhere. It won't be that hard to miss. But usually you should see the icon on your desktop. If your computer still says you don't have it installed, you can download from the BT update site. Just go to 'Tools on your browser's toolbar and click on 'check for updates'. Norton should be installed during that download since the software is actually an add-on.

If you go to BT Yahoo home page and then go into my services. You should find it in the software center.
I'd go along with tudor,

but go for avgfree antivirus and comodo firewall, and forget all about norton
BT did you a fav by not bundling that piece of junk into your system, you are better off using AVast Home which is free, faster, and more efficient.

A lot of viruses, spyware %26 adware sit in RAM, the registry and System Restore. This is especially true for Trojan Horses and Spyware that are just waiting to spring into life depending on you or your computer鈥檚 actions. Any pop-up that appears on your screen telling you that your computer is at risk or something similar should be totally ignored. Clicking 鈥榊es鈥?or 鈥楴o鈥?or by just closing the pop-up by clicking on the close 鈥榅鈥?can turn the beast into a monster. Just drag the pop-up(s) out of your way.

There are many web sites offering help on the removal of different gremlins but by attempting a solution yourself it will give you a better understanding of system security and hopefully you won鈥檛 be zapped in the future.

You must make sure that you have current anti virus AND anti spyware protection. If at all possible download the latest update files for these protection systems right now.

Norton Internet Security... Move account?

I currently have a Dell desktop which I ordered with Norton Internet Security 2007. I have a good amount of time remaining on my subscription... I am building a new computer and I will obviously need internet security again. I like norton very much and want to have it on my new computer. You can have your product key while installing to your new PC. One other way to be sure, you can email Norton customer service about license transfer. It will be one activated copy only. By the way, there are many after rebate free Norton Anti-virus software in the store (Fry's, Bestbuy, or CIrcuitcity), if you can get access to any of those stores in US you can get those copy of Norton.

Why do I keep getting security warnings when I open a VBS file?

Everytime i open a file (usually a .BAT or .VBS) from a network path i get a Security Warning that ask me if i want to run this file. Is there a way to remove this security warning and just have the computer run the application using Group Policies?

I use VBS files to perform a standard build of all the software required to go on a PC.

Please do not suggest Norton Ghost: I will vote you as a bad answer!

Why do I keep getting security warnings when I open a VBS file?malware

You get a security warning, because this is most likely the file format that a virus will use to attack your machine. Be careful when opening up bat or vbs files, because if you didnt create them or you dont know who the creator is, then you might be opening up a virus.

2007 Norton Internet Security Scan Problem?

I have the 2007 Norton Internet Security and I have noticed my computer running slower, so I ran a full system scan. It only found one problem, and it was called a "Tracking Cookie". I had it resolved and it said there were no more problems. Then the next day I ran the scan again and it found the same tracking cookie and I resolved it again. Ive done this everyday and theres always that same tracking cookie there that I have to get rid of. How do I permanently get rid of it? Because Norton cant seem to. And I frequently delete internet cookies and files on my browser too keep it from slowing down so that cant be the problem. Anyone know whats wrong?

1)What is your opinion about Zonealarm internet security?

2)Can it protect my computer without slowing down it?

3)Does it mistake in recognizing normal and unnormal softwares?

Who is using Zonealaram internet security?network security

I purchased this programme, personally I didnt like it, its difficult to configue and as a previous answer said its very intrusive. I found I couldnt get into alot of sites because the zone alarm internet security blocked it. I wouldnt advise any one to have this unless they are a very advanced user and know what they are doing it needs alot of complicated configuring.

Who is using Zonealaram internet security?norton internet security

I was using it but swithched to kaspersky.

1) The firewall is good. The program permission are easy to set.

2) Anti-virus is not reliable you still need to have a better one.

3) I love the Identity Theft feature.

4) Messenger Control is fine but I never used it much.

If it notifies you about a software that is connecting to Internet, check the properties of the file. if it has a unknown name check the name in the Internet.
I have it, but i don't really like it much cause it Keeps on hanging and also, it's a bit annoying. And scanning takes longer, but what is good about it is that it is able to find some viruses and spyware that a normal anti-virus and anti-spyware can't find.
Zone alarm protects against port sniffers, and programs trying to access the inetrnet that are not to be.

My personal opinion is that is is a very invasive program, that interrupts too much of my programs.

It slows my internet by about 25%.

I stopped using it over a year ago, and switched to better passive means of security.
Vishal ^ is mis-informed!

ZAIS, in fact licences it's anti-virus component from Kaspersky, it uses the exact same engine and virus signaturesas Kaspersky.

My question has to do with wireless hot spots and stealth ports security?

At one hot spot "GRC's Shields Up" reports all my ports are in stealth mode and my firewall activity report has only a few "in and out" activities. The final GRC report says my security is very good. At another hot spot, and without making any changes to my computer, the report says all ports are closed except a few. My firewall activity report shows several "in and out" activities per second. The final GRC report at that spot is very poor security. Can any firewalls configure my computer to have stealth mode ports all the time?

My question has to do with wireless hot spots and stealth ports security?network

First a bit of clarification - ports can have three states: Open, closed, or stealth.

- In case of open port, an application will respond to a request on a specific port by acknowledging a connection request. A web server would be listening on port 80 and waiting/responding to requests.

- For a closed port, an application (or OS) will respond with a denial of connection. (ICMP 鈥減ort unreachable鈥?

- A stealth port will not respond at all, be it open or closed behind the "stealth" status.

As you can see the "stealth" mode of a machine's ports are independent of the requestor.

Most software based firewalls and definitely hardware firewalls can be configured to not respond to requests.

Since I do not provide what firewall you are using, I am unable to provide you step-by-step instructions.

A personal opinion - stealth ports are overhyped as far as security goes.

Ports do not respond in two states - 1. The machine is off, 2. the port is in stealth mode. (third state is when the system or application crashed)

If the system can 'see' the IP address, it is clear the machine is on. No targeted attack will be fooled by stealth port. If it is an opportunistic attack, then a "closed" port would do just as well.

Computer certifications or bacherlor's degree? Need a job for Australia.?

I am 25 and live in the U.S. I want to move to Australia indefinitely and work after I get my certifications/degrees. They have a lot of computer related jobs available all the time which makes migration a whole lot easier for me.

I am going to start college next year but the problem is deciding what to do in computers. I have an interest in networking/security, database stuff, and IT. However, I don't really like computer repair or physically setting up networks a lot. I also do not want a straight programming job. System admin stuff seems interesting. Any suggestions?

Everything is so confusing as there are so many different fields that seem related. I had thought about getting a computer science BS/BA degree but I was told it's pretty much worthless because it doesn't mean much. Is it better to go after actual certifications (CCNA, CCNP, etc.) or to have a uni degree?

Also, I want to make sure that whatever I specialize in is in demand and not just a waste of time and money.

Question for Computer "NO IT ALL'S" or "NERDS" as some people so rudely put

What security software is essential for my computer?

I'm always downloading stuff, always on the net. So is their anything at all you can think of I need to get.

A list of things and why get's 10 points.

Question for Computer "NO IT ALL'S" or "NERDS" as some people so rudely put it..?norton 360

Okay, not having computer security software (anti-virus, anti-spyware etc...) leaves your computer open to all sorts of attacks:

- Adware (pop-ups come up from all over the place when your browsing the internet, even when your not connected!)

- Hijacking (Hijacks your web browser, for example when you load up internet explorer it takes you to a random website, usually one that encourages you to download something.)

- Spyware (the most dangerous in my opinion, if you buy things off Ebay etc... then spyware records your key strokes and emails them to the spyware creator. He/she will then steal money from your bank account/hack any accounts on the internet that you have)

- Viruses (if you don't get these removed, they will basically destroy your computer, files lost etc... NOTE: these are very hard to remove)

- Trojan horse (Installs other malicious programes on your computer NOTE: very, very hard to remove)

All of these can be caught, like a cold, from downloading dodgey files.

You have 2 options now, either to spend money on a GOOD anti-virus programme, or trust a free one.

Your computer is an insensitive pig, who can't see that you are trying to better yourself with the changes you are making, It's immaturity and insecurity is what is making him unaccepting of the positive changes you're going through.....oh wait, what the hell am I talking about....take it back to the place that did the work and demand that they reinstall your original security suite or try, and be prepared to wait on eternal "hold", try to call the good folks at Verizon to help you step by step to reinstall, they should have an 800 number for tech support. good luck!

Computer wont stop restarting?

All of my problems started with this computer when I installed Zone Alarm Internet Security. It ran for about a week then crashed my computer. Now the computer will boot up, but wont get through the boot up process before it restarts. I have done everything I can think of. I removed Zone Alarm (and any other unneeded programs), defragged, restored to a date before installed ZA, etc, etc. Is my memory to low? (256 RAM). Is there anything else I can do besides a complete restore?

Computer wont stop restarting?norton internet security 2008

search the registry for any Zone Alarm keys and clean it.....

You can also repair your OS, instead of re-nstalling it.

If you have partitions, and ur data is in a partition other than that in which ur os is loaded, you can format the drive in which your OS was there and go on to install a fresh copy(recommended as u might not know if the 3-rd party software leaves any component after uninstall. The component might be a trojan, a hard disk crasher, a spyware, and anything)

And surely a problem in the RAM will give you a continuous beeeee sound, and a system halt before it gets into the boot process.

Computer wont stop restarting?spyware removal

Your memory is OK. If you have a back up disc then back up all you files and try formatting the hard disc. And then re install the OS
in stall Microsoft XP home edition and unplug it for 1 day
Seems that your some legimate application has been damage. Actually, You probably won't notice a need to fix any registry problems if your system is new, but over time, your system's registry will become larger and larger, especially as software, drivers, and hardware components are added and removed from your computer. With so many additions and deletions, your Windows registry can become corrupted or filled with errors and empty destinations, and the need for you to fix registry problems would be paramount before they start to get worse.

Should I have Internet security before getting internet service?

I just bought my first computer, but i have no internet access. (im on my parents computer). Can I %26 Should I get internet security before accessing the internet for the first time?

Should I have Internet security before getting internet service?norton internet security

for a first system, yes...

firewalls can be a bit tricky to configure, so watch for ones that have user-friendly interfaces (in other words, avoid BlackICE and a lot of the very technical firewalls, because it'll just be overwhelming)...anti-virus can be a good plan as well...as far as anti-spyware, i don't know how much i like them, because they often are just as annoying as spyware...but more than that, i have had ad-aware detect critical files as threats, and had to start from scratch because of it...

and NAT firewalls are also EXTREMELY crucial...these are found on most high-quality routers...also, for a first system, do _not_ run a wireless network, because the security on them is (to say the least) weak...but putting a router between yourself and your connection gives you the ability to more effectively repel intrusion and prevent sensitive data from going out...

currently, i'm running a server box, with no additional security measures, and have had no problems. but i've been working with these sorts of things for years, so i've learned what security measures are required on a system facing intrusion attempts, and how to most effectively protect sensitive data...

Need help with my computer!!!!?

okay my sisters computer is totally messed up. Her internets don't show pictures, or little icons or any sort. No background colors. Some security thing must have blocked it and she can't find out how to get it back! (example: Yahoo homepage,..There are no pictures or icons next to "mail" or something. The background colors don't show up(she cant even change fonts or colors in her email!) The boxes around thing on yahoo homepage are different, its just plain. something much have happened to switch her whole computer to a plain mode or some security mode(even aim is different) Can anyone help her?!?!?!

Need help with my computer!!!!?norton

well i think that some files have been deleted from the system folder. But to bring back everthing back to how it was once was, go to all programs in the start menu of your computer, click accessories, then click on system tools, then click on system restore. try to go back in time useing that program and it will fix your computer back to how it was suppose to be. Otherwise if you have a windows xp cd, put it in the drive of your computer and when you see something appear on your screen saying windows xp click on Check System Compatibility and it will check to see whats wrong with your computer.

Can one single Norton Security program cover two computers when routed together? If yes, how do I se

No. You have to buy a license for each computer.

Because that's the way Norton wants it.

You can get a free virus scanner at http://www.av-free.com

Can one single Norton Security program cover two computers when routed together? If yes, how do I set it up?nortonantivirus

No, you have to have the software installed on each computer and you have to have a license to use the software on each computer. You can't buy one and then install it on both computers. Even if they are routed together, you need separate antivirus, anti-spyware, etc. on each unit, although you might be OK with just one firewall on the computer that the other is routed through.

Can one single Norton Security program cover two computers when routed together? If yes, how do I set it up?spyware

No. It has to be installed on each computer.
no and norton is not the best you can use. for one it uses a lot of resources and slows your pc. I would use avg or http://spywareterminator.com
nope. you need to purchase a license for both machines.

What action do you take when your Internet security detects a tracking cookie? do you Exclude, Fix o

i have symantec internet security and whenever i scan my computer it always detects a tracking cookie and it gives me the options of Ignore, Fix or Exculde but i am confused on which one to choose to resolve the issue. pls help me.

What action do you take when your Internet security detects a tracking cookie? do you Exclude, Fix or Ignore?noton

Exclude will never alert you again.

Fix will typically delete it.

Ignore will not scan it again for a while.

I would typically 'fix' these as they are mostly used by advertisers to see what sites I've been to.

What action do you take when your Internet security detects a tracking cookie? do you Exclude, Fix or Ignore?stinger

Tracking Cookies are automatically deleted*( well as i know ) with McAfee they are automatically deleted. However I do clean my computer everyday via McAfee Quick Clean.
The best way to protect your pc is delete the cookies after you are done on line. Unless you recognized the cookies are the sites you want to keep. Go to www.filehippo,com download CCleaner, it is free. Run cleaner after used. It will clean out your browser histories , temp files, cookies and more from your pc. It help prevent unwanted cookies that trail in to your pc by some of the web sites you were in. Hope it help.
I Delete it, which I guess is Fix in Symantec,(Norton). Actually I delete Norton all together, and use something that works for free, like AVG,(AntiVirusGrisoft), and Spybot Search %26 Destroy! I don't like my anti-spyware/anti-virus utility putting malware on my computer, then lack in the ability to take it off! 'Google' this on web to see what I'm yakin' about.
just fix it. nothing to worry about.
Good question.

Go into your security suite and look through your various settings for a Help link or a Contact Us. That might get you connected to McAfee. Or, temporarily disable the security suite just before trying to access the website.

Trojan on my computer?

well i was looking for a site to watch the movie the kingdom. i found a site where i have to download something in order to watch it. i have done stuff like this before but nothing ever happened. this time i keep on getting popups from my computer saying i have a dangerous virus on my computer and i should download the latest security system which is malwarebell.( i didnt download it) instead i did a full scan of my computer with norton 360. it found alot of things but not the trojan that i accidently downloaded. i also did a full scan with regcure and avast and still did not find the trojan. what the trojan is doing: whenever i search something on the google search engine there is always a fake youtube link with adult things on it. and finally whenevr i go into a program or foler, click on a link or just about anything on my computer, that pop up is always showing up. no please somebody help me with this!

Trojan on my computer?symantic

Most people use IE, so the trojan hacks that and not Firefox. Try temporarily installing Avira (http://www.free-av.com/ ) to find the problem and remove it, then get rid of it, as multiple anti-virus programs will conflict. Norton is a bit rubbish. Malware Bell is fake and spyware/virus in itself.
Norton 360 is crap, can't tell you how many trojan viruses I had on the computer.I loaded webroot and I found a bunch of them and 476 spywares.Stay away from 360.Support is even worse.Check out Panda for internet security.Webroot and lavasoft adaware.
download a-squared Free software for free ,it removes infections of Trojans, Spyware, Adware, Worms, Keyloggers, Rootkits, Dialers and other malicious programs.

50 people all use same computer. Windows XP.all have different email and what settings are best for

All use same computer...Windows XP Pro...all have different email through Yahoo and surf the web...what are the right settings so that they can take surveys on the same computer but not be mistaken for same person since its 1 computer would that be "cookie" settings or Security settings? Right now a person takes a survey and its says they completed it already but they have not...the computer never did that before...what adjustment has changed to make that happen? What do you adjust under internet options? Advanced settings to allow every person to use the same computer via email address? Thanks

50 people all use same computer. Windows XP.all have different email and what settings are best for web?photoshop

You can actually clear all the cookies and temporary internet files (including offline) but it's not only that, it will also depend on the website where you took the survey. Some websites will also check on the your IP address if that current address have already log to there server. If the server knows that you have log, then you can no longer take the same survey in a certain period of time. :-)

My computer wont let me download a program because it does not have a "valid digital signature&

I'm trying to download LimeWire, but my computer keeps coming up with the error "Security Warning, Publisher: Unknown Publisher, The file download has been blocked because it does not have a valid digital signature." It only gives me the option "Ok". I have tried lowering my security settings, but that hasn't worked. Is there another way around this problem?

My computer wont let me download a program because it does not have a "valid digital signature"?pop up blocker

You're messing with the wrong security settings. Windows may see LimeWire as a driver (which it sort-of is). Go to control panel, then system. On the hardware tab, click "driver signing". Under "file signature verification", look to see if it's set to "block". If so, this is your problem. Change the setting to "warn". You'll then be able to download. If this option is grayed-out, the administrator has locked down this policy by default.

My computer wont let me download a program because it does not have a "valid digital signature"?systemworks

If this is a computer at the place you work, the system administrator probably has you blocked. Unless you can convince him or her to unblock you, you're out of luck.

By the way, installing something like Limewire on a computer owned by your employer is usually grounds for termination.
Are you sure you want to download it if there is a "Security Warning"?
you still should be able to...where are you downloading it from?

IE7 only messes up my computer.Does anyone else have this problem?

I got a 2006 Gateway Desktop, with a dual core AMD 64 processer(super fast, multi-task-capable,,,can download, watch media center tv, burn a cd, send an email, browse the web, and listen to radio all at once), with so many GBs of ram, memory, or whatever. I have all the Windows XP, SP2, updates, security fixes, etc. When I install Internet Explorer 7, the start up is messed up saying "get process image" something is an in-valid name or command or something. I use YahooDSL. I turned off my anti-virus and firewall when I downloaded IE7 again yesterday. Then, today, I turn on the computer and "get process image something can't be found" again. This doesn't happen on IE6. I also have IE7 lock up on certain clicks of my mouse like signing into email, or browsing web browsers I went to before that never had problems. I asked this question now a 4th time. There's something about IE7 that is not compatible with (or to?) my computer. I have all the latest updates, security fixes. Help!

Government and computer manufacturers caught installing keyloggers into ALL new computers?

GOVERNMENT AND COMPUTER MANUFACTURERS CAUGHT INSTALLING HARD-WIRED KEYSTROKE LOGGERS INTO ALL NEW LAPTOP COMPUTERS! Requests from the Department of Homeland Security refused to answer a Freedom of Information Act request to answer this, after the police were called regarding the keyloggers found on the new laptops, which is, in my estimation, a violation of the Privacy Act!

Nice fairy tale. Maybe it COULD happen, but serious allegations like that require serious proof.

do you have a link to a credible news story about this?

yeah, thought not.

you don't know jack about me, Jack so don't be making assumptions....check my answers to see. I just don't jump when people bark. BTW, infowars and myspace don't count. Out of all that crap you posted, abc and bbc are the only credible sources.

I should report you for calling me a republican, that's major insult btw. I'm a cynic, there's a huge difference ;-)

You're not going to convince me that the US government has convinced dozens of companies that are based in Japan and other parts of the world to start doing this. Sony and Toshiba have been strongarmed into doing this? That's what you're telling me? Apple, one of the dogooder companies of the world, who has very close ties to the king of dogooder corporations, Google, is also doing this w/o a fuss? Knowing full well that it would be found out w/in months by the hundreds of thousands of people that are completely qualified to just accidently stumble accross this???

How come I don't have to input my password when i boot up my computer using windows xp professi

I have my user admin. account password protected, I set it up in the control panel, But when i either reboot my computer or turn it on it just goes straight to windows without asking for my password. I have only one user account on this computer, i just bought this computer recently but every other computer i have owned I just setup my password in the control panel and it requires it before i can log onto my account. If i goto "switch user" from the start button it takes me to the screen that i should have when i reboot and then it requires the password. I just would like some security from my roommates using my computer and right now i don't have it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Viruses and very slow computer how to delete virus?

I just got my laptop for christmas it was pretty fast and it was for a couple months but now its SUPER slow. It takes a while to load a page. I do have AIM on my computer ad my dad said that could make the computer slower. But I also have Web Security guard, Spyware doctor, etc....And a few days ago Spyware Doc. Found 2 threats with 15 nfections I keep deleting them and I even tried restarting my computer and they keep comin back.

The one threat is Application.Tracking Cookie with 8 infections and another threat that's Adware.Advertising with 7 infections

How do I make my computer faster and how do I get rid of those threats? Thank you

Viruses and very slow computer how to delete virus?spyware remove

You've got a couple problems as I see it...

1) You're using inadequate security protection and too much of it incorrectly

2) You don't know what you're doing and need to get some computer education

My advice would be to tell your dad that you need to have a professional look at the computer. Have the professional remove all of that crapware you've installed like spyware doctor and security guard.. and have your dad invest in a proper security suite (that includes antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc) from a RELIABLE vendor (like McAfee Total Protection or even Norton 360.. one or the other) and have the tech properly configure it and then keep it completely up to date.

How should a company use security to safeguard their computers and network and why?

How should a company use security to safeguard their computers and network and why?spyware remover

hey must put everything behind a firewall. encrypt anything that conains anything remotly confidenttal to the business o its customers. they have to password every account and make sure only the right people get access. they have to do it becuase its law. part of it is data protection act. and it's jsu commons sense. you wouldnt want a rival company to send some one in who could just download all your data.

How should a company use security to safeguard their computers and network and why?virus removal

A company should use the strongest possible system security to protect their data from those who would steal it for their own gain. Also, the company should diligently safeguard the system from their own employees who are not always conscientious about their work. A lazy employee, using measures to defeat security so that they can surf sites known for malicious code, can, and will, infect the entire system rendering it less than desirable in the area of performance. Perhaps worse, is the chance that the same employee would leave the system and its proprietary information open to phreakers who could harvest the data and sell it to a competitor. Lazy, inept employees, using proxies to attempt to defeat security are as bad as a kid trying the same thing in school. When they get caught doing this, the employees should lose their jobs and the kids should be expelled for the same reason, computer sabotage. Maybe then the workplace would have room for a good employee and the schools would have room for good students. In tomorrow's world, smart, capable leaders are needed to compete in a world market. You don't learn that by goofing off at school or work.

go to any machine open a command prompt it type IPCONFIG /ALL. This machine will give you its IP address Subnet and dhcp enabled YES:NO. If the dhcp is no then you must manually assign a static address via the properties of TCPIP in the properties to Network places. If dynamic go to the troubled PC and start a command prompt session. type IPCONFIG /RENEW. If you are assigned an address from the DHCP server then you are on a roll. if not check cable connections, etc..
