Should I pay for Norton or other security systems, when there are free one available?

I am constantly being asked to renew my security system that came free with the computer. The renewal costs money, naturally

Don't buy Norton! It will slow down your pc! There are several free antivirus programs and some very good pay antivirus programs. The link below is a link to PCWorl.com that has ranked the top Antivirus programs pay and free. Pcworld.com says that BitDefender is the best pay antivirus.

You should really go for Norton or McAfee virus protection/ spyware/adware protection. Those are the most reliable but yes, you do have to pay for it, but you are paying for the best protection for your computer, which costs a lot more than the protection software.
try to avoid freeware anti-virus products. some of them are a hoax, and just open your computer to free-range hacking. others like trial version of Norton Anti-Virus, or McAffee, aren't all that good either because the "update library" function is disabled(meaning if there is a new virus, the program won't update to detect that new virus, making your computer at risk). Zone Alarm Pro has a great anti-virus program. its a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. it has my 5 star rating.
I uninstalled my Norton when the subscription ran out. I installed Yahoo!'s free anti-virus and spyware protection. The Yahoo! programs actually detected and deleted several viruses that Norton would not detect! And now my puter is happy!
Try 'AVG anti virus' thats free! Just down load it.
it depends if that free one satisfy your needs or not
I used to have Norton Anti-Virus
